Bill and Colleen started in the manufactured home business in Western Maryland back in the early 70's. Bill 'learned all the ropes' by doing everything from driving the trucks that pulled the homes to their final destinations to leveling and installing the blocks underneath of them!
"I can remember some wild events back in those early days", says Bill. "Being in Western Maryland, alot of homes went up and on 'the mountaintop' or 'down in the valley'. Some were quite challenging! Low bridges and narrow roads were the norm in that area.
It was those challenges that gives Bill the necessary experience to further his career in the industry. It wasn't long afterwards that Bill and Colleen were able to open up their first sales center in Keyser, W.Va. But bigger and better things were on the horizon. Bill accepted his first sales position with Champion Homes in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. From there he went to Lancaster, Pennsylvania to take over a major sales territory for Skyline Homes.
At Skyline he worked in sales for the actual manufacturing plant and not only brought sales, but also the innovation to make Skyline Homes one of the most well known manufactureres of housing on the east coast! After 12 years with Skyline and numberous National Awards, Bill went back to his 'roots', selling homes directly to the consumer. "I missed talking to the people" Bill says. "In my position with Skyline, I was dealing with the dealers themselves and not with the end user. It was great for a long time, but I just missed helping Mr. and Mrs. Smith achieve their goals and fulfilling their dreams of obtaining their new home. It's very rewarding."
Bill & Colleen recognized the need for a quality dealer of manufactured homes on the eastern shore of Maryland. And with that in mind, packed up and headed for the shore! "We absolutely love it down here" says Colleen. "It was very hard to leave our family and friends in Lancaster County, but we knew that this was the opportunity of a lifetime. We have been blessed beyond words with the people we've met here on the shore."
So with the customer in mind, they developed the concept of Today's Modern Mfg'd. Homes. Bill's 12 years of experience actually inside the plant at Skyline is paying dividends to his customers today. The relationships that he has developed and cultivated over the years enables him to get the job done and to get it done right.
